What to Know About Nintendo NTSC-J Video Games
Japanese video game titan Nintendo is known for releasing well-received consoles for the past four decades, and with recent hits such as the Wii and the Wii U, Nintendo knows how to make a console that releases games for all ages. The company's major franchises, such as Mario and the Legend of Zelda, have consistently produced games with replay value, and Nintendo has also released these games for what is known as the NTSC-J. This is a certain format referring to how the games are advertised and packaged, and it's available for a number of systems, including Nintendo's own Wii U.

What is NTSC-J?In gaming, the term is used for distinguishing regions when it comes to selling games. NTSC-J means the product is being released in Japan, meaning that the language appearing on the cover of the game is Japanese. There is also no censorship label, unlike the American releases that are marked for age appropriateness. The packaging for the games released in Japan is cardboard instead of the American standard of plastic. The Japanese and U.S. video standard is shared, making these titles also playable on Nintendo systems that were released in the United States.
What does the Wii offer? The Wii is a remote-control-based console that relies on gamers to move the remote (or in this case, the Wii-mote), in order to control game play. Nintendo released the system in 2006, and it was an international hit. It was the first system next to the Gamecube to premiere titles such as 'The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.'
What is the Wii U?One of Nintendo's releases includes the Wii U. The Wii U is an advanced system with a touch pad as a remote controller. For many Wii U games, players are required to use a combination of the control pads and the touch screen to accomplish tasks in whatever Nintendo title they are playing. The Wii U also connects with online video apps such as YouTube and Netflix, giving users the option to also watch their favorite movies or TV shows on the same system. By taking the concepts of the Wii (more activity with the controller than just pushing buttons), Nintendo managed to once again push the envelope with the Wii U.
What NTSC-J titles are available for the Wii U?The Nintendo Wii U offers a wide variety of releases, from independent outputs, such as Splatoon, to major re-releases and sequels to classic franchises, such as:
- The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD.
- Star Fox Zero.
- Super Mario Bros U.
