Half Life Portal Crossover

0829

But on the lighter note the crossover Half-Life will be having with Portal will be The Borealis since it is an Aperture ship. In conclusion I would love Chell to be in a Half-Life game but it is not possible with the release of Portal 2 which is aimed to seperate the 2 seperate franchises but keep them in the same universe. Finish Half-Life 2: Episode 2, then finish Portal 1, followed by Portal 2. It was probably done to avoid crossover with the Half Life universe. Half-LIfe is a first-person shooter series developed and published by Valve Software. Half-Life follows Gordon Freeman, a Black Mesa scientist, who has to fight out of the Black Mesa Research Facility when a portal to an alien dimension is opened and unleashes various aliens.

It was obvious even from the first Portal that the 2 series are related, however how much this is going to show in the actual games is debatable.

Portal was intended as a sort of padding for the extra long development time of HL2 EP2 that proved to be a lot more successful than they anticipated(and that makes me wonder what they'll add to pad out the EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA long development time of EP3)

However the strong contrast between the quirky nature of Portal and rather serious tone of HL2 makes me doubt much of a cross-over. Yes, you will certainly reach the Borealis in EP3, I'd be really surprised if there are no references to GLaDOS, portals, and some of the quirky humour of Aperture's failure. I would have even expected a portal gun, since Portal 1 would have made a perfect test environment for such a new mechanic, but after Portal 2... I'm not so sure. Portal's gameplay was so well done that it would probably feel clumsy and out-of-place in a real FPS. But the 2 characters actually meeting? No, I don't think so.

There is a possibility of GLaDOS making an appearance.

Oh well, only time will tell. And since there hasn't even been a mention of EP3 yet... It's going to be a looong time.

As for the 2 silent protagonists actually meeting... Sigh, that sounds like a bad idea, since it does force one not to be silent any more, and that would suck (Samus Aran anyone?). What they might try to do is hint and build up to the 2 meeting, but never actually happening, kinda like what they did in HL1: Opposing Force. There you play as another silent protagonist, A soldier following Freeman, and you do get a glimpse of him at some point, but never actually meet him.
