Unable To Open Gmail
Have you tried the 'almost universal' gmail fix? Uninstall the app completely, reboot your Kindle and reinstall. I don't have the HDX but this has fixed problems I've had on an HD and others report success for a varied number of odd problems on various models. When you're finished with this step, you'll see your existing Gmail messages in Outlook. You can use Outlook to receive, read, and send new messages from your Gmail account. You can also continue to use your Gmail account as before through the Gmail web site.

In June 2012, Google's official blog stated that over 425 million active users worldwide had adopted their Gmail service – making it the largest online email service in the world. With global accessibility, an intuitive interface and over 10GB of email and file storage, countless businesses use Gmail as a viable alternative to more expensive private domain-based email services. In most cases, logging into Gmail and opening or reading messages is relatively straightforward as long as you have a stable Internet connection. However, if cannot open the Gmail site or read your messages, there are several things you can try to troubleshoot the issue yourself.
Problems Accessing Gmail
Since its introduction in 2004, the Gmail website has experienced very little downtime due to problems with Google servers. When the Gmail website does go down, though, you'll usually find that other people in your area cannot access the site either. Consequently, if others are able to access and log into Gmail, the problem is probably with your connection or your computer. If your computer’s Web browser application has problems accessing the secure HTTPS version of Gmail, you may find success by using the less secure HTTP version of the Gmail URL. For instance, type “http://gmail.com” instead of “https://gmail.com” into your browser's address bar.
Hanging While Loading Inbox
In some cases, you may be able to log into your Gmail account but experience problems displaying your inbox. This is usually the result of an unstable network or Internet connection. Resetting your router or modem may help to stabilize the connection and allow you to load Gmail's inbox and additional features. If resetting your network connection does not resolve the issue of the inbox or navigation pane links not displaying, you can also try using what Google refers to as the “older version” of Gmail to resolve display problems temporarily. In other cases, simply using another Web browser may resolve problems involving the inbox and navigation pane not displaying.
Problems Opening Attachments
If you're having problems opening attachments people have sent you, you should first ensure you are using a Gmail-supported Web browser. While Gmail may open and display simple messages in other browsers, email attachments generally only work in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome. If you're using a supported browser but still can't open Gmail attachments, you may need to disable your anti-virus software temporarily. Anti-virus programs known to occasionally cause attachment problems in Gmail include AVG, Avast, Kerio, McAfee and Norton. Finally, if nothing else seems to help, you may want to disable any add-ons or plug-ins you installed to the browser since the last time you were able to log in to Gmail and download attachments successfully. Disabling the add-ons or plug-ins one by one can help you determine which, if any, are causing problems on the Gmail website.
IMAP Issues
If you use both the website interface and a desktop email application to send and receive Gmail email, you may use the IMAP protocol for syncing folders and messages. The IMAP protocol allows you to compose, receive, delete or move messages on one platform and update them on the other automatically. For instance, if you compose and send a new email in Microsoft Outlook, then send it through Gmail servers, the message will appear in the “Sent” folder of your online Gmail account as well. The same holds true if you perform one of the mentioned actions on the Gmail website -- IMAP updates folders and messages in your desktop client automatically. With over 10GB of storage, users have the ability to send, receive and store thousands of messages, depending on integrated graphics and attachments. If you have more than 20,000 messages in a single folder, you may receive error 503 or 717 errors when trying to opening messages in that folder. Deleting some messages from the folder or moving them to another one will usually resolve this problem.
