Can't Beat it for the Price
Quite simply … can't be beat for the price. Just as good as any system I've used over they years - other than Kemper and AXE-FX … but then again, this is around 10% of the cost. I own two of them - one stays in the studio and the other resides in a Mission Engineering head cab and runs through a pair of Headrush powered cabs for live gigs. I play punk, so I don't need all the effects bells and whistles, so a simple $100 MIDI board gives me all the switching options I need. The added bonus of top notch DAW and Pro Tools makes this one a no brainer … even if only to noodle about with. Like any other system, you need to spend some time learning how to use and set-up the simulations … don't base your decision on the presets. Also realize that if you own multiple guitars (I own 16) one setting does not fit all.
Insane bargain
Outstanding amp tones, studio quality effects, looks great and easy enough to use after an hour or so of fiddling with it. I started off with headphones but almost immediately I pulled the helix out of my rack to run this eleven rack through its paces. I am blown away by the metal/ djent tones I get out of this. I do wish there was a simple way to just plug and play a midi foot switch but its definitely worth researching. This is my new favorite toy! The free pro tools software is really not worth messing with unless you have no other option but the eleven rack is worth every penny and then some. Super happy with this thing.
Eleven Rack
This unit has been the best addition to my studio in years . Although i have only used it for about a week now, it sounds awesome and supports all of my recording needs. Anybody can question amp models however i am not in search of a collection of amps , only sonic variation and this unit has plenty.I should also add that recording bass through it also sounds awesome. My only disappointment is that i waiting this long to purchase one.
Pro setup
a real deal gigging platform add a midi floor controller and you ready to rock sounds are really good to great easy to setup great support.
A REAL PRO TOOL DEAL
This the deal of the year, great for guitar, Bass , Vocals and even keys. the effects are clean and class A and make anything sound good . The amp models are workable and with a little tweaking you sure to find a sound thats right for you or download some presets from Avid preset base or many other pro tweaker preset sites and stock up. The thing I like most is that it responds like a real amp when using just your volume control, roll back clean roll up scream and it sings and not choke out like some modelers. With Eleven editable effect parameters in the signal chain. Not only can you use it with Pro Tools but any DAW you chose. At this price it's a no brainer , grab one before their gone you won't regret it for guitar, bass, vocal and keys with effects loop, analog and digital out flexibility. May be years old but has flexible control with a sound that has SOUL. No thin cheezy sounds here, like most modelers.
All this combined with Matt Fawcett sales and technical staff you just can't loose. PS. The Eleven Racks Orange Face sets it apart from the others because it's one of the most versatile Pro Tool out there. 'THE REAL DEAL'! THANKS SWEETWATER FAMILY.Eleven Rack
This is a great tool for recording guitar tracks! The built in presets coupled with the customizable possibilities make this an easy decision. Plug and play with Protools. An amazing addition to my studio! Better grab one while Sweetwater is offering it at such a low price! You won't be sorry.
Incredible Bang for the Buck!
I realize Eleven Rack is old technology. I don't care. This thing ROCKS! I have owned many modelers to include Roland/Boss 13 pin gear and this compares favorably to the best and smashes most. I am uncertain how other guitarists conclude this unit will not produce rock tones. IMHO it would be difficult to find a tone this unit could not produce. In my thinking the key is to find what you like and then settle in. I have often found myself chasing the 'next new toy' and have had to rethink my approach. This orange box can keep up and then some. There is a wealth of user patches available and once you play with some of these and tweak them in, you're on your way!
Bob Mondok and the Sweetwater crew are the best service team anywhere. You could not ask for better service. They a ray of light in dreary online world of sales!Sublime Electric Guitar EFX Processor
Hands down or thumbs up, the very best electric guitar EFX processor and amp modeling device I have ever used. It's just crazy good at the current price! Works equally well for recording and live performance. Anyone buying it, though, should understand exactly how they plan to use this wonderful 'Orange Machine'. Only mention that because for my purposes, it's simply a 'stand-alone' Avid product. I did not want to integrate Pro Tools program(s). Other may choose differently, and that's OK, too. It comes bundled with a demo-type version of Pro Tools (Pro Tools First). If you install, however, you place yourself into the Avid 'loop'. Usually a much better choice for PT users or only those considering. Appreciate there are many Pro Tools users, and not denigrating in any way. PT offers many industry-acknowledged merits. Yet, I love recording and mixing with Apple Products, an Audient iD14 interface, and Logic Pro X. My Sweetwater Sales Engineer, Jon Gillespie, was most knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the merits of the Eleven Rack to me - before and after purchase. Jon even helped me upload some phenomenal additional Artist Presets. The amp modeling and effects contained within this unit are so realistic that as you sample each one, literally, it almost feels as if you're playing different amps and guitars. Settings are easy to customize, name, and save, as well. The desktop Eleven Editor on a computer screen is user-friendly, and navigation using the unit, itself, is straightforward. You can just plug in and 'learn' intuitively. The front panel of the Eleven Rack includes a Low-Z input for guitar, an XLR input, and a headphone jack. Thus, you can enjoy without even connecting to an amp or other interface. Certain usable effects will work well with vocals, and other settings are suitable for an acoustic guitar. Yet, this beast really shines as an electric guitar processor - first and foremost!!! My only wish was that Avid had taken the Eleven just a bit further with a two channel 'solution' and dual-combo inputs, which would've potentially allowed it to function as an audio interface and mixer of sorts for simultaneous usage with guitars, vocals, and other instruments. Guess that would've made it 'The Twelve Rack', though? Outputs on the back of the unit offer most any option desired for recording or live applications. All-in-all, it would seem nearly impossible to beat this product at the current price for anyone wanting a rack unit or desk-top eye-level, electric guitar processor for recording or live performance usage versus an on-the-floor pedal solution. Sweetwater does also sell an optional expression pedal and controller for the Eleven Rack, if desired.
Wonderful addition to my gear!
Once again... many thanks to Caleb for pointing me in the right direction. It's great to have a company and reps I can rely on plus excellent products and service... whatever my needs might be.
The eleven Rack is all it was made out to be and more! I'm more impressed every time I turn it on.absolutely no dissapointments
i have owned one of these for a few years for lice use i have it paired with a voodoo labs ground control pro and i also use it as a recording interface... it has all the essential amps you could possibly want ... faithfully simulates a tube amp better than a majority of units i have tried. there is no digital 'whine' associated with some modelers.. it has a very organic and natural feel and sound ...
the editor is excellent... has all the controls usable from pc... be aware that you need to use the same usb input every time... otherwise you will need to delete double driver installs from your pcs device menu...especially if your going to use the editor with pro tools...
there were some comments about lack of lots of effects.. this is true.. this is not an overblown effects unit...that has a ton of crazy effects youll rarely use... what it does have is a a basic guitarists toolkit of classic effects that most pros would either use in the studio or have on their board... classic industry standard distortion fuzz compressors boost and modulation etc enough to suit most people... that's why there's an effects loop.. there are no whizbang spacewarp timeshifter super reverbomatic distortion maxgain super deathmetal drive effects built in... you'll have to supply those yourself ......complete routing options. and plus you have complete control over the drive characteristics of all the amp models. it responds the same way an amp would. drive it harder turn it up to ten and... you get the idea...
one of the best advantages is when you use this unit with pro tools ...there is little or no latency whatsoever... i dont know about other daws never had a need to try it.. but wit PT integration is just about seamless..i definitely endorse this product... and i paid almost double this price for mine years ago.Eleven Rack
I am absolutely shock at the power of this rack, I have a lot of Amp sim plugins, very good amp sims, but there's something about the Eleven rack that just seems to stand out, its the closes I have come to playing through a real amp with a wall of power to boot ,at the price you should get one of these, for what's all there with the options, the Amp sound search is over. One bit of info is that you have to have the expansion pack to use the editor software. Only down side, but there's so much there in controlling your sound its well worth the buy. you have to tweak 'some' of the presets out of the box to get to at least where I wanted to get with sounds that I was looking for but hey that's just gear, check out the comparisons on YouTube with the Ax fX fractal audio you will be amazed how this rack performs. at the price and an interface, hey get it
Very Surprised!!!!
I have to be honest and say I did not expect much from this unit considering it's age. But I thought at this price, I've spent more on other multi-effect processors/Amp modelers (Line 6 Amplifi) and could never get an inspiring tone out of no matter what I did!
So I jumped on the Eleven Rack and wow am I glad I took the chance. This may be an older product, but it really sounds great! Like any amp modeler, the factory presets are not great, many of them sound like a box of angry bees, but if you take a few minutes you can tweak them into a very usable tone. And with a few hours of tweaking, you can get some really awesome tones that will make you want to pick up your guitar and play!
At the current prices, this is a no-brainer; whether you are recording, playing live or just jamming for fun....buy it!Incredible
This is an amazing piece of equipment. It sounds great. Its unbelievably flexible, you can download and trade setting with folks online. It records a separate dry track in case you need to re-amp and…. Does it get any better than this? NO. Do yourself a favor and add it to your recording arsenal.
Best of all I've tried
I own a lot of effects processors and this one beats them all.
I even own a HeadRush which is great but the sounds just are not as good as Eleven Rack.
I only bought this because of the price drop and wasn't all that excited when it got here. It took me days to hook it up and test it. But when I did it was like plugging into my 5150 with some great effects. Don't get me wrong I love the Headrush and Line 6 and even my Boss GT100. They all have quality sounds but for some reason those units can't match the sounds of many cover songs I play. They come close with each having their strengths BUT this orange Eleven rack which seems to be exiting the market with the price drop or maybe they are coming out with a new one. Either way this one is what you want if you want to play cover songs and sound like the actual song does. Amazing!
I may even buy a second as a back up.avid eleven rack
Just got mine the other day, just as a stand alone amp, this is so worth the money,I really am surprised it's this cheap,i have other gear that cost's three times as much and dose not sound as good,I wouldn't let this pass me by if your a guitar or bass player,or even a singer for that matter, get one while they're still around.
FAST and Easy Recordings!
This box ROCKS! It took no time at all to get great sounding guitars and bass into my DAW. Great tones built in, and the Eleven Rack community is Amazing! So easy to play a gig with this thing. The live tones are stellar and easy to dial in. It really is like dialing in a real amp. Works seamlessly with Pro Tools and looks great too!
The True-Z Guitar input is sweet! No latency and sounds and feels like a real guitar amp. Your sound guy will love you. All of the tones behave like they would if you played through a head and cab. So versatile, so easy and such an amazing deal.
I received mine… with the Pro Tools combo and couldn't be happier. Ian and the team at Sweetwater are patient, knowledgeable and genuinely care about my projects. I really can't say enough about them and the friendship I have developed with Sweetwater.
Don't wait! Pick it up TODAY!!!!!!Great Deal! Great Service!!
I must say, this is the best service and product combo platter that I have ever experienced ordering over international boundaries!!
Cristian Good:
This guy will see that your order reaches you! PERIOD!
And once it did - what a deal!!
I love the 11rack, it is the best deal that I have had in a very long time.
Solid both in terms of build and sonic quality, certainly road and studio ready!
My favorite is the tube screamer module, yup, I missed mine from way back - till now!!
1000000000% satisfied!
If you want anything - call Christian - he will make it happen!
Thanks Christian - very very very very very much appreciated!!
Cheers
StephenGreat modeler and interface
I needed a new recording interface, and I was also interested in a good modeler. I have the Boss GP-10, and combined with the 13-pin output and piezo on my guitar, I love the acoustic sounds I can get. The electric models and effects never really felt right to me, so I picked up the Eleven Rack, and now I feel like I have all my bases covered.
I will say that the factory presets aren't that great, but I can't think of any processor I've played through that had amazing presets. After spending some times playing around with the various amps, cabs, effects, etc. I have two great patches and am working on more. I actually sold my 40-watt tube amp to a friend because I don't feel like it sounds any better, especially when it's time to record. The 11 rack is incredible!
Nice clean sounds, cool metal effects, cool effects period. I can't wait till I do my own sounds. I can't believe the price drop. Hey people, what do you all think of the basic version of pro tools? Nobody has commented on that yet.
It Does metal
Everyone says the hi-gain stuff is weak. I disagree wholeheartedly look online. I have had the podhdx and I can tell you this sounds warmer than the hd500x. It records great as an interface and re amping. You cannot compare it to kemper or axe... For the money you cannot beat it. As always service is the best with sweetwater thats why I keep coming back. Thanks Pat Schaefer!!!
Not just a guitar modeler
For this price point there is nothing better out there. And on top of being a great modeler it is a world class audio interface. It has a MIC in with Phantom power, a clean guitar-in (so you can re-amp later), the RIG output for the processed sound and DIGITAL stereo in and out.
All of that and records in 24-bit/96Hz with insane low latency (2.8ms).
The amp models and effects are really good (I know, I have the AXE FX II XL+ as well) but the recording is better than Helix & AXE FX combined. Latency and quality of sound are just miles beyond those two.
Even though I have the AXE FX, I still use the 11-Rack as well in my studio.amazing modeler quality
Real shame these units are going away as Eleven has moved to the Headrush thing. I've had numerous modelers including a Helix and really I like this puppy the best. I use pedals and really none of the basic effects models but they are really good. The Delay and Reverb in this are exceptional. I have just gotten into it but already have several clean amps tweaked in and it really is great sounding and has great feel. I am not doing the Pro Tool thing right now as that requires significant more investment and just gets infinitely complex the deeper you get into the various versions. I am just using the R11 has an amp source and it does not disappoint. ...this is a steal I would like to have another one in the box just to keep because at some point this is going to be a classic that will be costly for those who have them. Makes me wonder if the Headrush is this cool but for nearly 3x the money can it be that much better?? I am keep this. Best amp modeler I have had. I am not into super gained amp models but this puppy has them to spare. I am more into a great sounding amp and using pedals for gains.
Love this thing
I will star by saying this thing is awesome. I have read reviews where they say it is not good for metal so I was very apprehensive on purchasing the avid 11R. This thing has such a versatile range of sounds and tones and settings. I have 4 of my own settings for metal plus some pre set rigs that all sound unique and badass. I can get any sound and any tone I want. Also, this is the most user friendly piece of equipment that I own. I love it. Not only is it a great addition for the price, it is strait up a great piece of equipment!!!
awesome!
I have been playing 27 years, and I have owned a ton of equipment throughout the years. This thing is really impressive.
I personally think it sounds as real as you can get from any multi-effects unit. Read the manual because there are a ton of different ways to work this thing to get the be at sounds in a live situation, or in studio. I found that once I figured that out that Is when I started getting the best sound.
I love it, I think you will too. I play everything from metal, to jazz and everything in between. And this is a beautiful rack unit for just about everything I want to play.Modern Day magic. The Eleven Rack
The Eleven Rack is packed full of magic. Not real magic, that's silly, but this little rack unit can do just about everything.
I was super happy with the helluva lot of guitar sounds, but when I realized with the help of my Son that I could download sounds just about as amazing as the original amps, I was floored! Bogner, Marshall, John Petrucci and it goes on. I was going to use it for pratice and gigs, but after hearing the authenticity of these tones, I opted to use it permanently in my studio. Here are some positives:
-Several outputs for different objectives. Ie., Headphones, Low impedance, high impedance, USB and etc
-With just a few instructions, very easy to operate!
-4 sounds per each letter A-Z and a-z. You can do the math.
-Guitar and Mic imputs with 48V and Pad for the Mic.
Now a negative that I didn't take off of the rating because it is minor in my case:
-You need to scroll through your sounds, but, you can, using the 'user' channels' line up all your favorite sounds in order of your song list for example. I was told there is a pedal, but it is pricey for my wallet.
The past week has been a blast playing, recording with and just learning all the things the Eleven Rack can do. I have a Sweetwater card, so making payments without interest overtime was a no brainer and makes this system a no brainer! I recommend it to any serious musicians wanting to record with authentic tones and their favorite artists rigs. 5 StarsFINALLY!
As a professional musician for over 35 years (drums & keys) I began dabbling on guitar a while back... was looking for a great sounding pre-amp for home use - first bought a modeling amp and then a stomp box modeler... just didn't have 'that' sound and feel.
Bit the bullet and grabbed the Eleven Rack - within the first 10 presets I was hooked!
It's not only the sound - this thing breathes with you...
So happy with this - and it looks super cool in the rack.Amazing Guitar Recording Solution
I was having trouble in the studio getting the exact guitar sounds I was looking for from my mic / amp / room setup. This thing was pretty amazing solution to my problem.
I'm always chasing tone, so normally I'd spend an hour setting up an amp and mic combo, getting everything phase aligned etc. and by the end of it I'd have lost the creative momentum that made me set up in the first place. With the Eleven Rack you can scroll through and dial in any sound you're looking for within a minute or two. Maybe even finding a tone you didn't realize sounded good with the riff you're working out until you heard it first hand.
The bonus of an effects loop is awesome. You can stack your pedal library right on top of the built in virtually noise-free effects setup inside the Eleven Rack.
Perhaps the most genius part of this thing is the built in 'gate' - is the only way I can think to describe it. Essentially, if you're not playing, no signal will come out of the Eleven Rack until you start playing again. This means no pedal hiss, tremolo ghost, feedback etc. It's a great way to keep the noise floor low from the start, which is extremely valuable when recording.
I'm not the type of person to buy things like this, I'm very much analogue, UA or nothing. This is the only digital component in my setup and it immensely improves the capabilities of my studio when it comes to recording on the fly, making music late night without having to re-amp something the next day or just getting great, diverse guitar sounds.
Highly recommended.
The only bummer is that they didn't go with some kind of classic face for the unit. The hot rod orange is lame to me.Great standalone device
I purchased an eleven rack instead of buying an amplifier. It did a few things I was looking for:
1) Stereo effects loop
2) Standalone device not requiring a computer
3) Has impedence matching and real capacitors
4) Does not need a speaker cabinet
5) Affordable price point
Any of us who have ever looked into running stereo effects on guitars know that it can get expensive when looking to accomplish this.
I live in a studio apartment and having an amplifier at all seemed like a bad idea. The eleven rack has solved all of my issues.
I use it simply as an amplifier and let my pedal board do all of the effects and boosting and OD. I have particularly been into the fender twin and the AC30 emulations as they are great platforms for pedals.
The unit works great in my DAWless recording setup. It even has a built in compressor that hits after my pedals that I use as a leveler while recording.
I will be picking up a second one as a dedicated bass guitar unit.
The built in noise gate works awesome. As long as you use a power conditioner for your pedals and this unit, you will have a very low noise floor for recording.
Sound wise my only advice is that you should ise your own gain stages and fuzz boxes. The built in OD and distortions are too fizzy to be acceptable to me.
The only thing I would change is the aesthetics, but that's a minor gripe.
Overall at this price point I can't recommend this enough to people who are into experimenting with new sounds and recording. It will meet all of your needs.surprising
I wasnt blown away but i was impressed. Firstly it needs to be said that , almost every preset is way too heavily gated and most of them you wont get any decent sustain on, HOWEVER, every parameter in the signal chain is adjustable. I have read that you cant get metal sounds on this but that assertion is erroneous , once you start meddling with the signal chain . I didnt expect to be impressed by this but i was, I have only had it for about a week or so and i must have bumped the headphone jack somehow, the plastic sleeve is weak, so im looking for an alternate jack to replace it with. RMA could take too long and just add more cost so, I dont consider it an option.
There are a mountain of presets you can download and utilize with the editor , and some are very metal.
I use this also as an external soundcard for my macbook pro and it sounds a lot better than my mbox mini 3. Currently im looking for a way to have my monitors and bookshelf system hooked up, the options are plentiful. For the money its probably the best value for what it is, the dsp's arent really as capable as axe fx or some focusrite interfaces, they dont have much ram, but overall, its a unique tool with some great qualities.
I used guitar rig 5 all through college until graduation in 2016 for music production and it is not even close to the caliber in modelling that this is, it has a very noticeable AMP sound that you can hear in your picking. Look around for speaker breakup explanations, this thing is a sort of standard on its own for tweakability, and for the price its really unmatched.Good all around device
I was looking at one of these for a long time. Now that sweet water was selling the unit as a stand alone, I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm very impressed with the sound quality of the unit. The amps and cab sims are really good, clean and clear. The effects on the unit are not bad either although I'll be mostly using my own pedals through the unit. It takes pedals well. I'll be using this for both recording and gigging. For being an older device, it does a great job and I think can still hold its own against the more modern units out there right now.
The 11-Rack still Rocks!!!! m/
I originally had one of the 1st 11-Rack units & used it for 6-years straight. It's a simple unit that does a handful of tones at the highest quality. I got into Fractal Audio next & love the in-depth level of tweaking I can do, but I still missed the much more simple 11-Rack.
I had to buy the 11-R again when I saw what they were going for brand new here at Sweetwater Sound.
It's grear for recordIng & practicing with & while I did use it live for a few years, I have other gear for that.
This product will never age or gout of date, great tone it great tone. It will never be updates & nothing will be added either. It needs nothing, unless you need a ton of FX to sound good.
The 11-Rack is the best 'Bang for you Buck' deal around!!!
Good luck on your tone quest.....
Peace! X-MannAvid Eleven Rack
Great unit. Love the fact that it's stand alone or Pro Tools. Glad I made the decision to buy it. I would suggest it to others as they are closing out this unit.
Stellar AVID quality throughout
I've owned an Eleven Rack for about eight years now and this product at this price point is simply a must buy; I'm getting another (one for the studio and one for the stage rack). Although AVID is stuck in the middle ages regarding their 'proprietary' business model, their hardware is top shelf, second to none. When you turn knobs, push buttons or insert jacks on any of their products you can feel the quality. The guts of this unit ooze quality as well; the difference can clearly be heard. No mush, no fizz and no artifacts. The mike circuit is simply incredible; there is no need for a separate preamp and the guitar input circuit is unbelievably clean and responsive. The algorithms are excellent too; for example, their script 90 phaser model is the best emulation on the market (and I own all the good ones). The topography is well thought out with everything you need up front and the rest smartly arranged around back. Compared to competing products there aren't as many models to choose from and not as many parameters to tweak but the Eleven Rack has plenty of everything, enough to create any guitar tone I want. Since Eleven Rack presets can now be downloaded into the Headrush these two units make a great combination. However, I will still use the Eleven Rack on stage for major gigs; there is just something magical about the tone that I can't seem to squeeze out of the Headrush.
Eleven Rack
I had been looking at this piece at the reduced price for some time now. I decided to pull the trigger and could not be happier. What a great tool for the investment. Very intuitive to say the least. Thanks to Mike Hammond as always for having it in my hands sooner than expected.
Great for recording
I bought this to replace my 9 year old Toneport UX2 in my home studio. It's got a great breadth of sounds and tones. The hardware is well put together, but I rarely use the knobs/buttons since I'm using it in the studio. The software interface works is intuitive and comparable to what I was using with Pod Farm.
I got the Mission Engineering pedal to use the wah features & am happy with the responsiveness and tone. I opted for the basic pedal that costs 1/3 less than the eleven specific pedal. For my needs, it works beautifully.AWESOME TONES!!!
Couldnt get the pro tools to work so Im dropping a 1/2 star. The Eleven Rack though is awesome- The stock presets are meh but download the hundreds of free ones on the net and you will find some killer tones. Recorded it sounds great and live it sounds great- At this price it blows away all the other modellers
Absolutely worth the money, even without Pro Tools.
I am rating this less than 5* for the simple reason that the advertisement of including Pro Tools First is silly at best and misleading at worst. Pro Tools First is a free program you can download from Avid's website without purchasing anything. It's like saying it includes a download for Google Chrome or Winrar. Pointless.
I primarily bought this for recording multiple instruments in the progressive metal and jazz worlds, and there's some really cool presets out in the world. A lot of the included presets are goofy or pointless, but you just have to do some online research to find really good presets if you're not skilled enough or interested in setting up your own. (cough, cough) I have a sour taste for Line 6 gear, and I can't justify the money for an Axe FX, this is definitely a good call.
The noise gating isn't very good, even on the presets made by some pretty skilled people. Beyond that I've been very satisfied with it. It's very easy to use in Pro Tools, and would definitely be my recommendation if you use Pro Tools or want to. I've used my Ibanez SRC6 and Ibanez RG7421 with some awesome results over the past few days. As always, Sweetwater rocks with shipping and customer service. That's a given.Very solid piece of hardware.
First off, let me note I'm only reviewing it as a standalone processor (and the PC editor) - I don't use ProTools and have no reason to switch.
This is a LARGE unit for a 2U rack, in case anyone isn't aware. It's full-depth and about the size of an old VCR. That said, solidly done, nobs and controls are easy to use and visible from a reasonable distance.
After a bit of setup (mostly with the editor, which can be, shall we say finicky to get running - but the Sweetwater support foks were very helpful there and it got rolling after a bit more than I thought it'd take), I must say I'm impressed with the unit. The ad copy in this case doesn't lie - it feels like real amps when cranked in the room, and with a good set of studio headphones, passes my Turing test of making me check to see if I have the monitors on accidentally or the amp's too loud.
That said, the effects included are VERY limited by modern standards. Yes, it's great you can arrange them at will and all, they sound decent to very good (varying on your needs and the individual application) - but there's only a few different variants (three dirtboxes, an example, or three delays) compared to more full-featured beasts. You'll want to keep stompboxes and other processors around to use with this if you already have stuff you love or need more than it offers in that department.
As a straight up modeller, it's one of the better ones I've played. It has different takes on a few amps than my other units have, and the flexibility of the cab choices and simulated speaker breakup plus mic placement net many potential variants on any given sounds means I'm happy.
A plus is the routing options, both input and output - the line inputs are nice if I want to run a synth through it (or my guitar synth) and it preserves the stereo field. Mic input seems functional and doesn't sound bad, and will do in a pinch for most applications.
As an added bonus, while the PC editor is useful for some things - everything is readily accessible and visible on the front panel with minimal menu-diving. Real-time editing is possible and not horrible just using the unit itself, which is significant in this day and age of worrying about whether an editor will continue to work after an operating system change or whatnot.
Ask your Sweetwater rep for the artist patches (I found them mentioned in a Youtube video, and they're a great starting point for finding out how to make the unit do your bidding, even if you don't use them verbatim.)Great recording tool with these 2 setup tips
I'm really pleased with the 11R as a recording tool. I have the Helix Native software and, to my ears, the Eleven Rack sounds and feels much closer to a guitar amp. Super responsive, almost zero latency, and faster to dial in. It's not as good as the Kemper Profiler, IMO, but for 1/5 of the price, it could be the next best option.
Here's how you can get the most out of your 11R as a recording tool. First, I'd recommend checking out Singtall Presets. I spent weeks trying every patch I could get my hands on — hundreds into the thousands. To my ears, the Singtall stuff blows it all out of the water. Really demonstrates all the 11R is capable of. Just skip the freeware, buy his pack, and be done with it. He might even hook you up with a custom pack for less $$ if you email him.
Next, I'd recommend investing in some 3rd-party cabinet IRs and running them 1) in the computer via a freeware VST cab loader plug-in, or 2) using an IR loader pedal like the Mooer Radar (which I have) or Hotone Binary Cab. The Celestion Plus and 3 Sigma Audio IRs are the ones I personally use. With upgraded presets and cab IRs, the 11R is a standout value.Great price lot of tools
It really has so much I haven't gone through it enough for a true review, but I can say what I have used is awesome!
eleven rack
Just a brief review for now. Been playing 30 years. Main amps are Bogner, Soldano Marshall, Supro and Fender. I have Amplitude and S gear plug ins and have had an Axe FX. The Eleven Rack feels better than the plug ins and the sounds are very usable. When you listen to a recording of it versus a recording of the real amp, The elven rack passes with flying colors. Does it feel like a real amp. No.. but it feels better than the others plug ins and modelers I have tried.
Some of the presets are too bizarro for me, but the basic amp sounds are great. The cab sims are ok but not great. ...it is an incredible value and a very handy tool for the studio or even live if you need a lot of variety. ( I would use this live if I was in a cover band covering a range of pop music.)Bang for the buck
Purchased mainly for headphone use, and there it delivers. Quite a few of the presets are too facetious for any real application but to each their own. Waiting on a tech 21 power engine to pair it with for in room results. For the price, it's a keeper. How or why a foot controller isn't available as an option is just plain foolish; we use our feet! Just ask mxr, wampler, catalinbread...
Pros and Cons
This is a very simple to use and quality sounding way to record your ideas.
Before reading just know I've given this unit years of use before expressing my thoughts.
The clean tone is REMARKABLE. So great, that I use it live. You will be the envy of your friends in clean tones.
The effects are freaking awesome. Throw the eleven in your effects loop and have a blast.
Now I know several people say the dirty tone is fantastic. I'm not sure what their standards are but you're never going to be using this thing for metal/hard rock on its own. In a professional studio, I wasn't aloud to use it for distortion due to its lack of performance in that department. You're not going to get anything special live either. It's very very weak in the hard rock/metal department. Unless you know heavily what you're doing it's not happening.
Awesome unit, easy to use, overwhelmingly great cleans and effects, mediocre at best distortionPretty cool but know this.......
OK this is pretty cool for an older device, sounds great into the PA or FOH. Through an amp can be hit or miss. Fairly easy to learn operation if you have used Pod or Zoom modelers. I don't really care about Pro Tools but since it was included I'm my purchase I thought I would download, so this is strike one, you need to shell out cash to get an iLok to download pro tools. I have an older iLok and it is no longer supported, naturally. So then I thought I would get the 'free' editor and this is strike two, you have to purchase the expansion pack to use the editor. So while you are getting a cool modeler, there are some hidden costs to really use it or have a visual interface i.e. your computer. Using the front panel to adjust is easy as I mentioned, but it is disappointing that I won't be able to interface with the computer or get updates or patches without shelling out more of that hard earned cash.
Avid Cancer
I started working with this thing a few days ago. Unboxed, plugged in and started working on some tones. Got some pretty cool sounds out of it and I really liked the workflow...it just seemed more natural than working with software modelers.
Installed the drivers and plugged it into my Mac to start tracking in logic. Worked great, made way more progress than I would've working with an actual rig, and the sound was pretty good. Recorded and edited more than half the guitar parts in only an hour.
Not sure what happened overnight, but the next day I couldn't get the computer to recognize the eleven rack. Restarting solved that problem, but I was faced with a bigger one: disk overload messages. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the thing to record more than 10 seconds of audio. Bad drivers? Probably. They want you to use pro tools. Sorry, the version bundled with this isn't gonna cut it. I only use modelers in the studio, my live gear is 100% analog and I have no desire to change that. This device may work well as a pro tools interface, but it's cross platform performance is awful. If I can't figure it out within the next week or so I'll probably return it. I should've known better, Avids products are essentially the cancer of the audio world.
