Fallout 3 Crashes When Starting New Game

So. Fallout 3 for the PC arrived today. I was the happiest person in the world, or at least really damn excited. I installed it, fired it up on ultra settings, clicked 'new game', watched the epic intro sequence ('war..war never changes'), came rainbows, and then exploded, as i got a message saying 'Fallout 3 has stopped working.' This happened every time the cinematic ended when trying to start a new game. I tried it with different settings, tried reinstalling the game, tried a fix i found for it (http://www.gamingnewslink.com/2008/10/29/fixing-fallout-3-crashing-freezing-and-installation-errors/), which didn't work, and then I uninstalled that ffshow thing, and it still didn't work. as far as I can tell, using google, that was the only known solution to this problem. Well, that kinda blows, to say the least. I'm messing around with stuff..maybe I will manage to get it to work. otherwise, I will have to wait for a patch, and hope.
on the other hand, maybe I will get some work done.
System:
Vista Business x64
Intel Core-2-Duo E5800 Wolfdale (3.16GHz, OC'd to 3.91GHz)
XFX 789i SLI Mobo
SLI Nvidia 8800GT (2x)
8GB DDR2 800 RAM
EDIT: Quick summary for anybody else with this problem: I was able to fix it by reinstalling the nVidia drivers (GPU drivers). I also uninstallled ffshow, as per the instructions on some sites i found (see above) but I don't know if that contributed to the fix or not,

Click 'All Programs' (or just Programs, depending on the version of Windows, whether they're using 'classic,' etc.) 3. Go to the ffdshow folder. Click 'Audio decoder configuration.'
- Download the.dll file and drop it right into the Fallout 3 folder from the compressed RAR file. It should help your issue. I was having the same issue with this game and will also try for New Vegas next. It was crashing on start despite my efforts to bypass this. The file got it going. Hope this helps.

Hello there. I'm having a problem when launching FO3 via FOSE and/or the Launcher. Everything will act normal even when clicking the new game option. It will load/ Then, Crash. I do have mods but they aren't the problem since I disabled all of them to make sure. If anyone could help me on this, that will be fantastic. Kinda sucks since the GOG version fixes all of the Windows live crap issue.
(Also, just an FYI, I did use to own the Steam version of FO3 and it had my old saves. Maybe that could be the problem?)

It's because neither Fallout 3/NV supports a Intel GPU. If you have an Intel HD Graphics card, you gotta download the 'd3d9.dll' file and put it in your fallout 3 install directory. Guaranteed fix if you have an Intel GPU. For the file, just search youtube for 'Fallout 3 Intel gpu fix' and choose a video. Holy crap, your solution actually works. I was having doubts doing it was because FNV and the steam version of FO3 work flawlessly. Not sure why the GOG version wanted to be an odd fellow. Unless Gambryo is just a picky dick. Thanks, man :)

That doesnt help me any. I've purchased FO3 (for the third time) just to get it to work with Windows10 and have had no success on any of the suggestion s of Berthesda, Steam or any other forum, which seems to have the same suggestions phrased differently. Any other suggestions other whats already out there? Otherwise my only choice is to get with tech support, make the attempt and then request a refund.

It's full offline installer (c.a. 96 MB). It will unpack where you select (e.g. 'C:DX') and then run 'DXSETUP.exe' (as admin if you have UAC enabled).

It also works for Fallout New Vegas.
