Windows App Store Icon

Fix Windows 10 App Store Icon Missing. Make sure to create a restore point just in case something goes wrong. Method 1: Re-Register the Windows Store App. 1.In the Windows search type Powershell then right-click on Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.

It's been couple of days since I upgraded my system to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Everything is working fine except this nasty error. If I pin apps to taskbar or run apps , the app icons on the taskbar are shown as white square. And I am seeing the same thing on Apps & Feature settings list. The icons are there but as the backgrounds are shown as grey-white chequered pattern (for the transparency ), it looks like white squares. Rebuilt the icon cache but to no avail. And on the start menu everything looks fine.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I have two user accounts on pc. One is all as should be and the other has this exact same problem. I've also tried running fixes to no avail. Have microsoft released a fix?

No joy here as yet and to add to my woes not all the installed programs show up in the start menu - even Office is nowhere to be found in the menu.

My laptop and the other Windows desktop are fine after the upgrade.

This is despite doing a repair install, and please, I do not want to be told to do a refresh as I have way too many work applications on my work station to go down that path and to have to reinstall them all.

I will ride the wave for a short period of time, The support is not forthcoming, new release and bugs are to be expected, but no offer of a fix! I tried to postpone 10 upgrade but it installed anyway, hopefully this will be sorted soon!! i removed windows old with disk cleanup so if repair install doesn't work and no fix is offered then fresh install is all i have and will stick with 7.... ps, I feel your pain..

Well I managed to get both my Store and Edge icons back.

Firstly I ran the upgrade process again over Windows 10

Because of the start menu issues I had installed Classic Shell so I could access all programs installed and lo and behold on Classic Shell there is a section named apps - I clicked on that and all store apps show in that sub menu, so I right clicked on both Edge and Store and selected pin to task bar. Now they both work, shame one had to use a 3rd party application to fix this issue.

However......

The Windows 10 Start Menu still only shows about 1/2 of my installed programs and as I said before it is no even showing Office 2013.

So I am still looking for a fix to populate the start menu programs section with all installed programs

I had this occur on a laptop that came native with win10. We were attempting to recover from a bad update (where the laptop would NOT turn back on after the reboot). We ran all sorts of System Restores to restore points in doing so and not this problem occurs. I've tried all the powershell magic, wsreset under various conditions (with the permissions error), the dism image restoration tool, and even an inplace win10 to win10 upgrade. Nothing worked. PLEASE Microsoft, we need a fix for this.

Microsoft, don't be evil and solve GUI issues! It is so frustrating to use so much time the OS fighting with those Start menu and Explorer freezing bugs...

Hi Kokbira,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. Let me assist you.

Windows App Store Icon Missing

System freezing is a performance issue and not a bug. Please provide the troubleshooting steps tried by you. I suggest you to run a System Maintenance Troubleshooter to check if that helps.

Please follow the steps to run System Maintenance troubleshooter on the computer:

  • Type “Control Panel” on the search box.
  • Click on Troubleshooting.
  • Click on View all option on the left side of the Windows.
  • Click on System Maintenance option.
  • Click on Next and follow the onscreen instructions to troubleshoot the issue.

Also ensure to install any pending updates on the pc to keep the system up to date.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.

Thanks & Regards,
Pawan Dhondiyal

Assuming that the issue you're responding to is the same issue that the rest of the thread is experiencing, the System Maintenance Troubleshooter does NOT help in any way, nor does it detect any issues. The machine that I am experiencing issues with is also fully up to date (MS Update Does not detect any new updates to apply). Any ideas?
